The Now and Then Scrapbook

Try It, You'll Like It!

It's no wonder scrapbooking is one of the fastest growing hobbies in North America. What other pastime is as much fun and allows you to create a time capsule that can be enjoyed today and for many tomorrows?

Scrapbooking doesn't have to be complicated. On this page you will find links to three free, printable pages from the Kindergarten section of The Now and Then Scrapbook, which will demonstrate just how easy scrapbooking can be.

With a minimal amount of effort, you and your child can create a lasting document chronicling their childhood achievements and adventures. Go ahead, print one of the pages and fill it in with your child. We know you'll feel good about the results!

Tips and Tricks

1. Encourage your child to draw a family picture in the custom frame, or make a collage with photographs. If you're using photos, don't worry about finding one picture that fits the frame exactly. Cut out a variety of photos, and overlap them to create a collage. It's so simple and it looks great!

2. Pens: Try using a thin Sharpie marker on the divider pages - just be careful to let the ink dry for a few seconds before you touch it or it can smudge. For the other pages, you can use different colored markers (acid free) with thin tips. I chose felt tip markers with a .3 mm tip. In reality, you can use anything, even a ball-point pen, but the thin tip markers look pretty nice!

3. When you are ready to fill in a section with your kids, try sitting down with a pen and paper and asking them the questions from the book. Once you have gone over all the sections, you can transcribe the answers in the book all at once. This tends to eliminate the chance of errors when you are writing. Also, when your child is in the older grades, they can copy the answers into their books at their own pace.

4. Who's In The News? and What's In The News? can be used in many different ways. Write a headline, take a clipping from a newspaper, make a list of important events, or fill the space with a photograph. You can concentrate on news of the world or news of the home - it's up to you.

5. We recommend starting Now and Then any time from Preschool to Grade 3. If you've missed a year, you and your child can have fun filling in the blanks by talking about the past, and going over old pictures. Best of all, when you have an actual Now and Then, you can put all the documents you've been accumulating into the useful pockets.

6. Even if you are an avid scrapbooker, Now and Then is a great way to get kids started in the craft.
